Green Business Features

  1. The Green Team meets regularly within the Vancouver office and with our other offices to develop new initiatives and work towards our goals of reducing our impact and promoting sustainability education for employees.
  2. An online webpage is used by the Green Team to share sustainability resources, seasonal tips, volunteer opportunities, and newsletter updates. Occasional Friday Learning sessions cover sustainability topics selected by the Green Team and are posted online for later viewing.
  3. Our Community Investment Program donates services to qualifying, local projects with a focus on underserved communities.
  4. Multiple donation events are held each year including, Red Cross blood drives, school supply drives, and food bank drives. Additionally, PBS matches employee donations to selected non-profits during the holidays and other recognition events, as well as providing an annual employee donation match.
  5. A company-wide Freecycle board is hosted online to encourage reuse.
  6. Our office has adopted Fisher Basin Community Park through Vancouver Parks and Recreation and hosts park cleanups multiple times a year. Other volunteer opportunities such as local tree plantings and invasive species removal are also promoted by the Green Team.
  7. In addition to regular office recycling collection, household batteries, e-waste, plastic film, and compost are also collected. Special recycling events are hosted by the Green Team multiple times a year for hard to recycle items. Collection items include polystyrene (#6/block foam), #1 clear plastics, #5 plastic prescription bottles, eyeglasses, Pak-Tek handles, and compact fluorescent lightbulbs. Travel-sized toiletries and gently used clothing are also collected for local donation. Books can be donated to or borrowed from the office lending library at any time.
  8. Bulk containers for kitchen snacks and reusable dishes for office meals are used whenever possible. Coffee is purchased in bulk from a local coffee roaster. A hot, cold, and carbonated water dispenser is available to encourage reusable containers.
  9. Energy efficient appliances and green cleaning products are used.
  10. Recycling and garbage containers are placed at employee desks. Containers are emptied instead of replacing the bags.
  11. Client invoices and meeting agendas are sent electronically, and meetings are offered with an online option to reduce travel.
  12. Refillable pens are used in place of disposables and printer paper is made from 30% recycled content.
  13. Employees are provided with paid volunteer hours annually to give back to the community.
  14. Employee wellness initiatives are promoted quarterly including an interoffice walking challenge to kick off summer. Wellness stipends and flexible schedules encourage employees to take care of their health.
