Green Biz Spotlight: Clark College

Clark College has been educating in our community since 1933, and in more recent history, they have been leaders for large-scale sustainability. In 2014, Clark College was certified as a Green Business, but their sustainable practices began long before then.
Composting, conducting waste audits, and conserving resources have been business-as-usual at Clark College for years, but their most recent improvement is a project for energy efficiency. Over the last few years, all outdoor lighting was upgraded to high-efficiency LED, and indoor lighting is currently being phased to LED. Projects like these occur across the college because of cooperation between Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), Facilities Services and the Environmental Integrity Council.

To share environmental knowledge with students, employees and the community, the EHS team writes regular Sustainability Bulletins. The bulletins pull from their experiences in maintaining Clark College's "green" status, and cover everything and anything related to sustainability.

To back this obvious commitment to the environment, the college has included the core value of "Environmental Integrity" in their strategic plan. This formal step is what makes Clark College stand out as environmental stewards, and is why they are a great example of a Green Business.
