One of our newest certified Green Businesses, ZipEco Recycling & Waste, engages and educates the Clark County community on proper recycling techniques.
ZipEco helps local businesses and residents develop and maintain long-term sustainability goals. They do this by monitoring and sorting participating business and resident recycling streams prior to disposal, and by providing written and in-person training opportunities to curate informed recycling practices.
ZipEco strives to ensure items are properly recycled – putting an end to "wishcycling."
Wishcycling refers to the practice of tossing things in the recycling bin and hoping that the items will be properly recycled. When items are improperly recycled, it adds costs to the recycling process and may damage sorting equipment. Common items that are recycled improperly include:
- Plastic film, including shopping and trash bags
- Styrofoam
- Chip and candy bags
- To-go cups
- Paper towels
- Plastic clamshells (e.g., berry containers)
- Greasy pizza boxes
Some of these items that are not accepted in your business' recycling bin may be recycled through a separate service. Check out Clark County's Commercial Collection Services page for guidance on disposal of commercial garbage and recycling collection services.
By educating the Clark County community, actively monitoring and sorting recycling streams, and providing training opportunities, ZipEco is helping to put an end to wishcycling.
